2014 is a special year for Riga
Riga is the European Capital of Culture next year so what better year to host the Cruise Europe (CE) conference. From May 6 to 8 the Freeport of Riga Authority (FRA) and the city will host CE members, cruiseline executives and members of the press during the annual event.
“This event is very significant to the port authority,” said Laura Apoga of the marketing department FRA.
As a destination Riga International Airport offers flights to 81 destinations worldwide and is only 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre. The conference will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel Latvia a few minutes’ stroll from the old town. All the delegates will be staying at this venue.
Last year ‘Riga – The Style Lives On’ was recognised by the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals as one of the best world’s tourism films. Created by the Cruise and Passenger Division of the FRA, it can be found at www.whyriga.com.
Although Riga, both the port and the city, has always been an important player in the Baltic Sea region, it has recently become very “in fashion” explained Apoga. This year it hosted the Tall Ships Race 2013 and the National Song and Dance Festival.
