Virgin Voyages Debuts plans for a New Cruise Ship Terminal in Miami

Richard Branson, the famous billionaire based in London and the founder of Virgin Voyages which deal in cruise liners revealed his new plans last November 28th. The new proposal for a new terminal at the Port of Miami would be the base of his latest cruise ships, one named as the Scarlet Lady and the other one which is yet to be called.
He announced The Standard in Miami Beach. Present on occasion was the president and chief executive officer of Virgin Voyages Tom McAlpin, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, and Commissioner Rebeca Sosa amongst other local officers.
Florida’s Popularity forVirgin Voyages on the Rise
Branson stated how South Florida has rapidly become a new home for the Virgin brands regarding luxury travel the world over. He also announced that the new terminal would be about 100,000 square foot and would be made on the northwest side of the port of Miami.
Once it is legally approved, the construction of the terminal would begin by 2019, and it should be tentatively done by November of 2021. It is estimated that the cost of the terminal would be around $150 million in total.
The terminal is to be designed by Miami based architecture and design firm Arquitectonica which is also famous for other projects in South Florida including American Airlines Arena and also for the restoration of Miami Beach Convention Centre.
What Can You Expect from the Port?
The new port will demonstrate a South Florida vibe with palm trees. The rooftop would be made to represent a palm grove, and the gaps in between would allow real sunlight to enter the building through them. Virgin’s red logo will shine in the midst.
The Scarlet Lady by Virgin is a cruise ship for passengers above the age of eighteen. It will set sail from the Miami terminal towards the Caribbean Islands in the year 2021. The second ship will also debut in Miami in the same year. Bookings for both the vessel will begin in the year 2019 on Valentine’s Day.
Gimenez said that it is good to see Virgin Voyages expand to the Miami-Dade County. The construction of the new cruise terminal at the port of Miami signals confidence in the community which is also the Gateways to the Americas apart from being the cruise capital of the whole world. It will serve both Virgin and Miami quite well in the longer run.
This news also comes right after the announcement of the new partnership between Brightline and Branson’s Virgin Group. Brightline will now come to be known as Virgin Trains in the USA from December 2018. They will also carry the logo of the Virgin Train USA on all its trains, websites, stations and signages from the new year of 2019.
