TUI sets sail into the river cruise industry with the purchase of three passenger ships
From summer 2020, the world’s leading tour operator will be expanding into the river cruise industry following the purchase of three passenger ships. The move comes as TUI continues its pledge of offering customers even more choice, flexibility and an unrivalled level of service.
TUI River Cruises will offer adults the ultimate flexibility to create their perfect trip when it comes to river cruising, with the option to create bespoke packages to suit their every need. Customers will choose their board basis, whether that’s full board plus with wine, beer and soft drinks included with meals, or selecting the premium drinks package, cabin type and even their favourite cocktail in the lounge.
The cruise line will also boast a handful of private balcony suites for those seeking to add even more luxury to their package.
When it comes to choosing the perfect excursions, TUI River Cruises will offer a huge variety for all travellers as they work with the destination services team to complete the perfect end to end TUI service. On offer are active excursions for avid adventurers, sightseeing tours with a local expert for those looking to broaden their knowledge, relax and learn, and those looking to try something a little different can experience a bike tour.
The cruise line will also offer £120 credit to put towards any shore excursion bookings, allowing each customer the perfect opportunity to tailor their holiday to suit them.
Similar to the fantastic atmosphere onboard TUI’s ocean cruises, TUI River Cruises will ensure there’s the perfect atmosphere whatever the occasion. The ships will offer chic and revamped spaces perfect for relaxing and watching the world go by, romantic á la carte dinners for two, casual dining and social spaces to enjoy with friends as well as some of TUI’s world class entertainment. Travellers will also benefit from some of the extras customers have grown to know and love with a Marella Cruises holiday, such as tips and service charges included in the price and the reassurance of TUI’s expert support line available 24 hours a day.
Chris Hackney, Managing Director of Cruise for TUI UK &I said: “We’re incredibly excited to be moving into the river cruise market, we’re always looking for new opportunities to offer our customers even more variety when it comes to choosing the perfect holiday and our river cruises will really take this to the next level as customers are able to personalise their package whether that’s board type, cabins, excursions and even cocktail choice.”
“We’re very proud to be known for the friendliest service, exciting itineraries and great value for money when it comes to our ocean cruises and we look forward to bringing this to TUI River Cruises”
Tui has bought the ships from operators Werner-Tours and Reisebüro Mittelthurgau Fluss, which will continue to operate the vessels until October, after which Tui River Cruises will take control. The ships will then be refitted and renamed Tui Maya, Tui Isla and Tui Skyla.
