Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez extends waiver of lay berth and harbor fees for PortMiami’s cruise line partners
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez extended a waiver for lay berth and harbor fees for Miami-Dade County’s cruise line partners through November 16, 2020, subject to availability at PortMiami.
“Miami-Dade County will continue to support its cruise line partners,” said Mayor Gimenez. “It is because of our partners that PortMiami is recognized as the Cruise Capital of the World. We’re grateful and committed to their future.”
On April 9, 2020, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a No Sail Order for cruise ships. Consequently, on April 13th Mayor Gimenez extended the waiver through May 12th and broadened the definition of the waiver to apply to any vessel owned by a cruise company that has a berthing or operating agreement with Miami-Dade County.
On June 19, 2020, the Cruise Line Industry Association (CLIA) announced its voluntary extension of the suspension of U.S. cruise passenger operations until September 15, 2020.
On August 5, 2020, CLIA announced that it was further extending the voluntary suspension of cruise passenger operations to October 31, 2020.
The time period for the extended waiver can be amended at any time at the sole discretion of Miami-Dade County, as needed.
