The Public Health Agency has said it offered “precautionary” advice to cruise vessels arriving in Northern Ireland after it emerged that hundreds of passengers were prohibited from leaving a luxury liner in Belfast this morning. (belfasttelegraph.co.uk)

Harland & Wolff is back targeting cruise repair jobs having been rescued by InfraStrata plc, which acquired the shipyard in December 2019. The shipyard’s main facilities in Belfast host two of the largest docks in Europe at 556 meters and 335 meters respectively, along with numerous fully serviced quayside berths, according to a statement from the yard. A record number of cruise ships are set to dock in Belfast this year – up by 25% – despite the continued absence of a dedicated terminal. More than 200,000 day-trip visitors will arrive on 117 ships between this month and October. “Belfast’s popularity continues to grow,” said Michael Robinson, the harbour’s commercial director. The buoyant forecast – which also indicates that Belfast could see cruise visitors hit the 230,000 mark in just two years – comes amid claims of a 100% growth in the sector since 2010, with more than 100 ships expected to dock in the province this year. (belfasttelegraph.co.uk)
