Reporting full year earnings, TUI Group saw revenue increase across its three cruise brands by 10.7 percent to 901.9 million euro for the 2018 fiscal year. Turnover was reported at 324 million euro, up 26.8 percent over the year prior. Cruise operator Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced two new appointments on its ships’ bridges. Ulf Wolter, current captain of the EUROPA 2 will take the helm of the new, international expedition ship HANSEATIC inspiration, taking to the water in October 2019.

Saturday July 28, a polar bear was shot dead in Svalbard after attacking a cruise ship’s polar bear guard. The guard sustained moderate injuries. The incident is being investigated by the Governor of Svalbard.
This Saturday on a trip ashore in Spitsbergen during a BREMEN cruise an incident occurred: a polar bear guard – an expert employed by the cruise line – was attacked on land by a polar bear. The guard suffered head injuries, however, he was responsive after the attack and was airlifted.
