Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Meyer Turku shipyard have signed an agreement (still subject to financing) on the delivery of a third Icon class cruise ship, to be delivered from Turku in the spring of 2025.
The hull assembly phase of Carnival Mardi Gras, a 180 000 gross tonnage cruise ship, was celebrated with a traditional coin ceremony at Meyer Turku shipyard today. The coin set on top of the keel blocks will be placed into the ship for good luck after the float-out of the ship.
There has been a fire on the deck 15 of Costa Smeralda, a ship being constructed at Meyer Turku Shipyard. There was stored equipment on fire, started by welding inside the ship. The fire started approximately at 16:45 Finnish time (18-3-2019).
Construction of the Costa Smeralda, the new flagship of the Costa Cruises fleet, is continuing at the Meyer shipyard in Turku (Finland). The characteristic yellow funnel with the blue “C”, which has identified all the Italian company’s ships for the last 70 years, has now been installed.

The brand new Mein Schiff 1 was delivered to TUI Cruises today at the Meyer Turku shipyard. It is the fifth vessel built for the German line by Meyer Turku, and ushers in a new era for the Mein Schiff platform, as the ship class was lengthened by 20 meters for additional capacity, allowing the ship to carry 2,900 guests.
